Ancillary Research - What is a Digipack

A digipack is a style of packaging usually used for CDs or special editions. These come in the style of a book that are very informative about the artists and in particular about the album with a copy of the CD attached inside.

What makes a digipack so unique is that they have some aspects you wouldn’t normally see within a normal album. A digipack emphasises the artists brand image and is targeting for “superfans” providing them with a more visual benefit and giving them better value for their money. Some would even say buying a digipack establishes your loyalty to that artists. For the artist themselves, a digipack helps bring more awareness to them and their specific genre of music.

Some conventions of a digipack:
  • ·       Artist/band name
  • ·       Song list
  • ·       Production information ie: year, web address, distributor etc
  • ·       Promotional sticker (for the fans)
  • ·       Lyrics of songs (not always)
