Favourite previous student work
.
This is video has to be my favourite simply because their editing skills was so direct and matched perfectly with their chosen song. This groups song was called 'Fallen' and i was made clear who there intended target audience was; teenagers.
The main narrative for the video was a about a girl being heart broken. they showed this very well through the use of base tracks, mise en scene and lighting. first of all they have a large amount of base tracks used to put this video together which i thought was fantastic because it clearly made it easier for them to edit on the beat through out the whole video, this also first directly with the genre of their song (dub step). For the more base tracks that they used showed how she was heart broken.
Secondly their use of mise en scene was also done well, as the different locations really showed how well it was thought and panned for. Props used in this video made a significant stand out, for example the use of the black wings is continuously showed through out as he audience always remembered it, it is also puts forward the idea of a fallen angel which links to the title 'fallen'. another thing i also liked with their element of mise en scene is the use of birds because it signifies love. also the idea of writing key words down it catches the audience attention.
Thirdly their editing skills was impressive for me as the shots where cut directly on the beat. Other forms of editing were used such as slow motion i.e slow motion of the cars and birds flying, black and white edit for all of the shots. the black and white edit stood out more because it was strong because of the lighting that they used was creative.
Finally i felt that they challenged Mulveys theory by having no exploitation of the female body.
