Music Industry 2012

In 25 years, the music industry has moved from LPs to CDs to MP3s/iPods and so on.
Traditionally, record companies had full ownership of the music that was released by the artists and the artists was the one that went about, promoting and trying to sell their single/album as much as possible. However with a shift in society and modernization record companies were witnessing a fall in their profit. Consumers are now more active when it comes to the use of the internet and this has introduced many different sites as to where you can download music instead of purchasing a physical copy which people used to do back in the day. Throwing a demo or single up on a social networking site proves to grab a lot more people’s attention and also consumers are able to hear the music through TV and radio so the physical ‘cd’ of the artist has lost its true meaning.
